A parrot's plumage is not uniform. Feather patterning, barring, coloration boundaries, facial markings, and beak and cere characteristics vary bird to bird, even within the same species and the same clutch. Two blue-and-gold macaws that look identical to a stranger are visibly distinct in a careful photograph. Parrot ID is built on that reality: a registration captures the specific visual signature of your bird rather than a generic species description, which is what makes a later match meaningful.
That approach has a practical advantage over the alternatives. Microchipping a bird is invasive, species-limited, and requires a scanner nobody at a park or a rescue is carrying. Leg bands are useful for breeders but trivially removable and frequently unreadable. A photograph, by contrast, is something every owner already has and every finder can produce with the phone in their pocket.
